That thing I was building? It’s a shelf that sits on top of the balcony railing of my apartment. Before, the railing itself got in the way of the plants (they used to hang out on the table where the milk jug is) so I thought I’d give them a little boost so they can get a little more sun, since they only get a few hours of direct sunlight anyway. One piece of plywood (with plenty to spare) and a 2x4, plus a couple cans of white enamel spray paint (waterproof!): < $25.
